St Joseph’s English medium Higher Secondary School, Eravu was opened as a nursery school in the year 1978.Rev.Fr.Immanuel Rathapilly, the then vicar of St.Theresa’s ship church was the founder of this educational institution. It has completed 43 years of successful journey .Today it stands as a beauty spot on the cheek of this Holy shrine. The Lower Primary English Medium School was recognized by the government of Kerala on 28/03/1989. The first SSLC batch was presented for the examination in March 1998 securing 100% pass and the success journey continued in all the following years.Besides, we are blessed with 15th rank in 2001,8th rank in 2002 and again 15th rank in 2004.
We strictly follow English as our medium of instruction both in class rooms and school premises. We aim at imparting value based education and to provide ample exposure for the hidden talents of our blossoming buds. Our dedicated teaching and non teaching staff with great sincerity groom up our students to great heights.
In 2002 ,the institution was upgraded as a Higher Secondary School with Biology science stream. In the following year one computer science batch and an additional Biology batch were sanctioned. The Commerce stream was introduced in 2005.The new Plus Two block with well equipped lab was inaugurated by the then Hon. Minister of Finance ,Sri.K.Sankara Narayanan and blessed by Archbishop on 09-01-2004.The classes of Higher Secondary section are also handled by efficient ,experienced and qualified teachers.
Home Theatre – The centre of visual communication media was inaugurated by the cine director,Sri Sathyan Anthikad in the year 2008.Further, to improve the proficiency of our students in English ,two Communicative English instructors were also appointed in the academic year 2009-2010.Rhythm phase was included in the curriculum as a refreshment and a revival of the aesthetic talents for our little ones in the year 2010.
Our class rooms were also made smart with audio-visual facilities which improved the teaching learning process through multimedia far ahead in 2012-2013.In the same year we have started a school protection team for the safety of students.An amount was collected by our little ones to help our former student for his liver transplantation and was handed over by Rev.Fr.Davis chirammel,the chairmen of Kidney Federation of India.
In 2015 , we started a scout troop for boys and also a red cross team in the same year. In 2016,a guide company for girls was also introduced.A yoga class to make students relaxed out of their heavy mind was also started in the year 2015.Every year Science, Social ,Language,Maths and Work experience clubs and exhibitions are also held.
Our students have participated and secured scholarships like PCM, USS,Sugama and Kairali Vinjana Pareeksha.A welfare and charity club was started by our children out of their compassionate and merciful heart. We used to conduct tours and picnics every year to make our children refresh from the tight academic activities.
In 2020-21, due to Covid pandemic, the School was not able to conduct regular classes as per the order of Kerala government .June 1st 2020 onwards we started video classes through our channel “St.Joseph’s EMHSS Online Classes”. To get individual attention for our students, we started to interact with them individually related to question time. In 2021 we upgraded our class by introducing Google Live Classes to make sure the attendance of students and also impart them with a school atmosphere.
Now, our institution holds up the light of knowledge which enlightens Eravu and the neighbouring places.
